School readiness for up to 5-year olds – Virtual school

As part of our online after-school services, we have developed (virtual) playgroup provision for 2-3 year olds and up to 5 year olds during the day.

Our provision aligns with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham’s comments when speaking at the Manchester School Readiness Summit on Thursday 28 February, 2019:

Young Black Students Playing - Illustration“At the inaugural school readiness summit in November 2017, I called on organisations to go further and faster to improve the number of children starting school ready to learn, building on our successes so far. Today, I can confidently say that thanks to commitment, collaboration and innovation we are moving in the right direction. More children started school this year with the skills to learn and reach their potential – a result of the pioneering work we are doing across the city-region. But we need to do much more if we are to ensure that no child is left behind.”

As members of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority VCSE Task and Finish Group for School Readiness, we are committed to working with our Greater Manchester partners to achieve better outcomes for our children.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum delivers all the key requirements expected by any parents or the commisionnier. Our EYFS provision follows the Reggio Emilia approach to child-centred learning, that promotes the natural curiosity of the child as the main driver for learning. We carefully integrate the following areas of learning in as organic and child-centred way as possible:

Understanding the world

Understanding the world is the foundation for our primary curriculum, as we believe that embedding the principles of ‘global citizenship’ is fundamental to a balanced, nurturing and responsible education.

Communication and language

Our children take part in many different activities related to physical development  including Physical Education (PE) such as dace or team sports.

Personal, Social & Emotional development
