Recognising the Pillars of Our Community

Behind the success of every child in our supplementary schools is a team of passionate professionals and dedicated volunteers. Following the launch of our Expression of Interest form for the 13th June celebration at the Martin Harris Centre, the Manchester Supplementary School Partnership (MSSP) and Manchester City Council are proud to officially open nominations for the 2026 Supplementary School Awards.

These awards are designed to shine a light on the individuals who work tirelessly outside of mainstream school hours. Whether they are heritage language teachers, cultural mentors, or administrative volunteers, their impact on the city’s educational landscape is profound. Nominate staff members to applaud and validate their hard work and elevate the profile of supplementary education across Manchester.

Don’t forget to register yourself and your school’s interest to attend the event if you haven’t already, by 17th May 2026.

Three Categories of Excellence

To ensure we capture the diverse range of talent in our sector, we are seeking nominations in three specific areas:

1. Youth Voice and Children’s Rights: This award celebrates a member of staff who embeds youth voice and children’s rights into their activities, learning resources, and curriculum. We are looking for individuals who truly listen to students and empower them to take ownership of their learning journey.

2. Creative Teaching and Learning: This category recognises those who use creative and engaging methods of teaching that move beyond traditional classroom styles. We want to hear about teachers who bring subjects to life through art, technology, or innovative storytelling.

3. Community Partnership: This award celebrates staff members who work in partnership with other organisations, local businesses, or charities to create brilliant opportunities for their students. This could include arranging work experience, community projects, or cross-cultural collaborations.

The Nomination Rule: One Per Category

To ensure a fair and manageable judging process, each school is invited to nominate one staff member per category. This limit encourages school leaders to carefully select the individual who best embodies the spirit of each award. Please note that you can nominate both teachers and support staff; anyone who makes your school a special place for children is eligible.

Why Your Nomination Matters

Every single person nominated will be invited to the Supplementary School Achievement Day on 13th June. During the ceremony, they will be presented with a formal Certificate of Achievement. A judging panel will review all submissions to select one winner for each category, who will receive a special prize trophy presented by senior leaders from Manchester City Council.
