With over 25 years of experience as a community arts specialist (Arts Award Advisor: License no.9093055) and composer, Dr Ornette D Clennon has led and project managed many projects across the community spectrum. Ornette is a community activist at local, national and international levels. Starting with his groundbreaking work with adults with learning disAbilities that formed part of Glasgow’s 1991 Celebration of Cultures, to helping to establish the Education Outreach Department of the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh to being Artistic Director for the Divali Festival in Edinburgh, Ornette has been in the forefront of engagement with communities and managing projects, as part of his community and public engagement activities.
Ornette’s enterprise and activism work has been recognised with the NCCPE Beacons New Partnerships Award.

As Visiting Professor of the Federal University of the Amazonas and Visiting Research Fellow and Community Arts Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, Ornette has brought his substantial community and research experience to the MEaP team as their lead for research and project coordination for the consortium’s extra curricula activities including his experience working as a United Nations (OHCHR) Advisor (grassroots education, SDGs, social justice) as part of a wider team of Civil Society and Grass roots Organisations.

Dr Ornette D Clennon is Headteacher of MEaP Twilight Academy Supplementary School. Ornette is also the Teacher Training Mentor for our Twilight School, which was originally been held at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Brooks Building (ManMet) and is now a fully online school.
Twilight Academy’s impressive results are a testament of the tutors’ quality and Ornette’s leadership.

Dr Ornette Clennon coordinates our international partnerships. Ornette is Visiting Professor at the Federal University of the Amazonas (UFAM). He has been a ManMet Visiting Research Fellow and a critical race scholar in The Research Centre for Social Change: Community Wellbeing, where he led the Critical Race and Ethnicity Research Cluster. Ornette also led MEaP’s research, engagement strategies and research relationship with ManMet. Ornette writes for Media Diversified and open Democracy UK and is a Public Engagement Ambassador for the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE). Ornette is widely published and his books can be found on his Amazon author page. Ornette has worked with the Ubele Initiative, Locality, Alci Matos Community (Manaus, Brazil), IDPAD Alliance of CSOs (United Nations), MACC, MEaP, Black British Academics and the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education.
