After-School Provision
At MEaP Academy Twilight School, we take a collaborative and partnership-based approach to learning, drawing on our broad base of educational and community relationships that support our school and our teaching.
What we can do for you
Our After-School provision brings together a range of expertise from across the community to provide nurturing, engaging and educational activities at the end of the school day.
We draw on our existing partnerships and build new links that enable pupils (and their families) to embed and enhance their interest in and understanding of a range of local issues. These include:
• Health
• Education
• Community action
• Youth work (#IWILLSocialAction campaign)
• Business and commerce
• Arts and culture
• Social and community enterprise
Our social action and extracurricular activities are accredited with a L3 Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the Arts Awards.
We aim to be a Centre of Excellence in our community. For the benefit of our children and young people, we draw together the rich variety of skills, assets, people and energy already present in our midst.
We teach Foundation subjects at KS1 and KS2 and we also deliver Maths, English and Sciences at KS3 and KS4. Each session lasts for 2 hours (with breaks) and pupils work through interactive self-study materials. We also run shorter (1 hour with breaks) online playgroups and KS1 classes.
You can read what our students say about us on our Student Portal.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Our online Early Years Foundation Stage provision, led by Mrs Jumoke Quadri, follows the Reggio Emilia approach to child-centred learning, promoting the natural curiosity of the child as the main driver for learning. We carefully integrate the following areas of learning in an organic and child-centred way:
• Understanding the world
• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Expressive arts and design
The first of these – understanding the world – is the foundation for our primary curriculum, as we believe that embedding the principles of ‘global citizenship’ is fundamental to a balanced, nurturing and responsible education.
School readiness for up to 5-year olds
As part of our online after-school serivces, we have developed (virtual) playgroup provision for 2-3 year olds and up to 5 year olds during the day.
We believe our school readiness provision aligns with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham’s comments when speaking at the Manchester School Readiness Summit on Thursday 28 February, 2019:
“At the inaugural school readiness summit in November 2017, I called on organisations to go further and faster to improve the number of children starting school ready to learn, building on our successes so far. Today, I can confidently say that thanks to commitment, collaboration and innovation we are moving in the right direction. More children started school this year with the skills to learn and reach their potential – a result of the pioneering work we are doing across the city-region. But we need to do much more if we are to ensure that no child is left behind.”
As members of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority VCSE Task and Finish Group for School Readiness, we are committed to working with our Greater Manchester partners to achieve better outcomes for our children.
Welcome to Highway Hope, one of our physical locations, where, in addition to Brooks Building at ManMetUniversity, we also run the Twilight After School project. We are very excited to host this excellent programme for our young people and their families from local communities in the Levenshulme and Hulme/Moss Side areas of Greater Manchester. However, due to the current pandemic we have relocated many of our activities to our online school that has expanded our reach across the region.
