MEaP has been celebrating the publication of authors Dr Ornette Clennon (our Head of Institute at MaCTRI) and Dr Faye Bruce (Chair of CAHN)’s new book titled:
Decolonising Public Health Through Praxis: The Impact on Black Health in the UK
The book “Decolonising Public Health Through Praxis: The Impact on Black Health in the UK” provides an interdisciplinary analysis of UK African Diaspora health seekers and their sustained health inequalities in the health market. It translates their often-silenced voices into a decolonial praxis, where their experiences illuminate the hidden factors that have blighted change in health outcomes for these communities by:
- Tracing the historical origins of racially discriminatory attitudes towards Black people
- Analysing how discriminatory attitudes exert influence on decision-making and influence UK health outcomes
- Focusing on decolonisation, situating traditional health knowledge in communities that allow for health activism
The book is published by Palgrave Pivot and is the first in a series of publications that will be released by our MaCTRI scholars! We celebrate and anticipate the positive impact this contribution will generate for our communities and the UK health sector at large!
